The designated TADA court on Friday gave a judicial finding for the first time ever on the involvement of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
The court accepted Phanse's confession that he had gone to Dubai to attend a conspiracy meeting convened by Dawood Ibrahim, thus giving a judicial finding on Dawood's involvement in the case.
The court also convicted Dawood Mohammed Phanse and Sharif Abdul Gafoor Parkar.
Phanse alias Dawood Taklya was convicted on the charges of attending a meeting in Dubai convened by Dawood Ibrahim to plan the conspiracy and later organised the landing of arms, ammunitions and explosives on Shekhadi coast in Raigad district on February 3 and 7, 1993.
He was convicted under Section 3 (3) (aiding and abetting the conspiracy) and Section 6 (punishment extending from five years to life in case of contravention of provisions of Arms Act, Explosive Act and Explosive Substances Act) of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act.
Parkar alias Dadabhai was also found guilty under similar grounds.
He was also found guilty of showing a place in village Sandheri and Borghat in Raigad where co-accused were given arms training.
Parkar has been also found guilty under section 6 of TADA (enhanced punishment) and convicted for organising meetings of custom officials with the accused.
