A school student was killed and two of his companions injured in a grenade explosion near Chandilora village on the Srinagar-Gulmarg road on Thursday.

Militants were targetting a passing army vehicle. However, the grenade missed its target and exploded on the road, police said.

"Three school children, who were seriously injured in the attack, were rushed to the SMHS hospital. One student succumbed to his injuries at the hospital," it added.

The blast resulted in disruption of traffic on the Srinagar-Gulmarg road even as security forces searched the area.

No militant outfit has owned responsibility for the attack.
