Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday night ordered a magisterial inquiry into the violence and subsequent police firing in Seelampur. Three people have been killed in the traders' bandh violence.
"Only an inquiry will bring out what led to the violence and subsequent firing. I assure you I will punish the guilty," Dikshit said.
Three persons were killed, two of them in police firing, and scores of people including security personnel injured as the traders' bandh against MCD's sealing drive turned violent in many parts of Delhi on Wednesday.
The chief minister also said adequate compensation will be provided to the vicitms' family saying that it was the responsibility of the government to do so.
Terming the violence and subsequent killings as unfortunate, Dikshit said some "unlawful" elements had tried to flare up the situation.
"The bandh was peaceful. Some mischievious elements took advantage to create chaos leading to the killings. I was upset hearing the news of the killings of poor children," she said.
On the ongoing sealing drive, Dikshit expressed helplessness as the the "drive was carried out on court orders".
"We have been trying to minimise the effect of the drive. But the court has a particular view. Everyone knows that we are carrying out the orders on a particular sitation," she said.
Dikshit also appealed for calm and directed the police commissioner to ensure peace in the metro.
