A police constable was killed in a crude bomb attack in Allahabad on Monday.
A police team soon shot dead one of the assailants and arrested the other, a senior official said.
During a routine check, head constable Ashok Pandey stopped two youngsters on motorcycles at the Civil Lines, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Akhilesh Mehrotra said.
He said the two tried to escape after hurling a crude bomb that killed Pandey.
One of them fell off his motorcycle and was arrested. He has been taken to a hospital.
The other attacker was shot dead a few hundred metres from the crossing, the DIG said.
Mehrotra said the identity of the assailants could be established only after the statement of the injured attacker was recorded.
