A major tragedy was averted on Monday when security forces detected two improvised explosive devices planted by militants in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The two IEDs, weighing one kg each, were noticed by the security personnel during patrolling at Hamzapora village on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Monday morning, official sources said, adding that the two explosives were quickly defused by the bomb disposal squad.

Both the IEDs were planted on a link road adjacent to the highway. The first IED was detected around 9.15 am while the second was noticed half-an-hour later as the area was being searched by security forces, the sources said.
