A school director, accused of molesting a girl student, was arrested and prohibitory orders clamped in Hisar, on Wednesday, a day after some students and their parents held violent protests over the issue.

"Section 144 (banning assembly of five or more persons) has been imposed. The situation is quite normal now and I have personally taken a round of the city. The vehicular traffic on all routes including Hisar-Delhi National highway is plying normally," a senior police official told PTI.

Hisar zone's inspector general of police Yashpal Singal said the main accused in the case, Rishi Sagar, director of Vishwas Senior Secondary School, had been arrested.

"We had also rounded up three persons in the case to check if there was any nexus between Sagar and them, but only the school director has been arrested," he said.

However, some students took to the roads on Wednesday and were demanding strict punishment to the guilty.

Haryana's Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana said the government was viewing such incidents 'very seriously and with great concern'.

"The district education officer has been directed to inquire into the incident. Once his report comes and if the accused is found blameworthy, every action will be taken," Mullana told PTI.

To a question, he said the school was not an aided one. On Tuesday, agitated students and their parents blocked traffic and damaged school property while demanding action against the guilty.

Meanwhile, police sources in Hisar said they had registered a case against Sagar on the basis of a news report published in a leading Hindi daily on Tuesday.

According to the FIR, 'since the last 20 days the accused (Sagar) has been doing immoral activities with girl students of Vishwas school and also threatened them with dire consequences'.

Meanwhile, Haryana's deputy chief minister told reporters during a press conference in Chandigarh that 'guilty will be punished'.

Several incidents of sexual exploitation of girl students by their teachers in various government schools across Haryana have come to light recently.

District magistrate of Hisar has imposed Section 144 in Hisar in view of the tension prevailing in city after the incident in Vishwas School.

District Magistrate, Fateh Singh Dagar in the order stated that the step has been taken to maintain peace in the district. The order will continue till further notice, he added.
