"He was my son, but there will always be anger in my heart for him. He died for me on April 22, the day he shot Pramod."

These are the words Pramod Mahajan's mother Prabhavati had for her youngest son Pravin, in her first interview since the Bharatiya Janata Party leader died on May 3.

"Pramod was such a nice person, he took care of the entire family, and yet he met such a fate. I cry myself to sleep everyday thinking about this.

"Is it wrong to be good in this world. I am a mother, and yet I feel he [Pravin] should be punished for what he did," Prabhavati said in an emotionally charged interview in a documentary made on the late leader's life by his son Rahul.

Throughout the five-minute interview, Prabhavati never once takes Pravin's name, constantly referring to him as 'that man who stayed in Thane', and talks about him in the past tense.

"He killed a man who was like a father to him. I don't take his name anymore. He died for me on April 22," she said.

Reminiscing Pramod, Prabhavati said, "He was the eldest and always took care of all his siblings. He used to pamper that man so much, and when I admonished him, Pramod told me, 'our father died when he was so young. He deserves to be pampered.'

"We were very happy together. Even when his father died, money was short, but there was love in our hearts. Pramod got his sisters and brother married, taking on the role of the man of the house," she said.

"After his father's death I used to cry a lot, but he used to scold me saying, 'why are you crying, don't worry, I am here. I will take care of things," Prabhavati said.

The 43-minute long documentary has accounts of Pramod Mahajan from several people close to him, including his brother-in-law and BJP leader Gopinath Munde.

"We hope that this documentary helps inspire the youth of the country to work for Mahajan's unfulfilled dreams. It was a very emotionally draining experience watching those images again and again," Rahul Mahajan said after the screening of the film on the occasion of his father's birth anniversary.

"I am also planning a photo biography on him, to coincide with his death anniversary, where we will ask people from all over the country to send us photos of him that will then be compiled," he added.
