Normal life was hit on Friday in the Brahmaputra valley, following a 10-hour state-wide bandh called by the People's Committee for Peace Initiative in Assam.
However, no untoward incident was reported till noon.
The PCPIA is a conglomerate of 21 organisations sympathetic to the ULFA cause.
The bandh was called to generate public awareness about its demands for direct peace talks between the Centre and ULFA, release of the five incarcerated leaders of the outfit and withdrawal of army operations from the state.
Official sources said the bandh had no impact in the Bengali-speaking Barak valley districts.
Shops, markets, commercial establishments and banks in the Brahmaputra valley downed their shutters; educational institutions, private offices and cinema halls were closed.
Attendance in government offices, district administration offices and the secretariat was thin as most of the staff could not reach their work places in the absence of public transport, the sources said.
Except a government-run city bus service in Guwahati, private mass transit buses, auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws were off the roads.
Both state buses and private long distance buses did not ply.
Trains and planes, however, operated as usual, the sources added.
In view of the bandh, the government had directed that all its offices and services throughout the state should function normally.
