The Tamil Nadu police have arrested All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam legislator P K Sekar Babu, from a private nursing home, where he was being treated for injuries sustained during the violent first phase of the Chennai local body elections on October 13.
The police said they arrested Babu on the basis of the confessions of 16 persons who were arrested at St Thomas Mount. They had five petrol bombs.
Those arrested told the police that Babu had hired them to disrupt polling at suburban Nanganallur.
Babu has been remanded in judicial custody.
The police have registered a case against former AIADMK minister Valarmathi too.
