Bansidhar Chattopadhyay, father of Dhananjay Chattopadhyay, who was hanged for raping and murdering a minor in 2003, has appealed to the President not to commute the death sentence of Parliament attack mastermind Mohammad Afzal Guru.

Chattopadhyay made the appeal in a letter to President A P J Abdul Kalam, along with other residents of Kuldihi village in West Bengal's Bankura district.

Dhananjay Chattopadhyay was hanged to death on August 14, 2003, for raping and murdering Hetal Parekh, a minor girl, after serving 14 years of jail term.

However, Dhananjay's wife Purnima said, 'I pray to God so that Afzal be not hanged. Let him stay in jail. May Afzal's wife not have to endure the trauma that I faced.'
