The number of suspected cases of dengue in different parts of Uttar Pradesh has crossed 100 even as the state government issued a number of directives to the health and civic authorities to check the spread of the disease, officials said in Lucknow.

With reports of dengue affected persons coming in from districts, officials at the health directorate confirmed that so far at least seven people have died of dengue while several were undergoing treatment at various private and government hospitals in UP.

Alarmed over the dengue cases the health directorate has issued directives to respective chief medical officers to undertake fogging and sprinkling of insecticides and provide medicines at primary and community health centres in the state as well as set up control rooms at district level government hospitals.

Health department officials have been asked to collect information about dengue patients in different parts of the state and take prompt action to control the situation, sources said.

About 100 cases of suspected dengue have come to light in Lucknow, Agra, Etah, Ambedkarnagar, Hardoi and Saharanpur districts and steps have been initiated to control the situation, they said adding that in Lucknow alone there were 31 confirmed cases of dengue.

Meanwhile Samajwadi Party MLA from Etah Sadar Seeshpal who tested positive for dengue was rushed to New Delhi for treatment, officials said.

People are being apprised with the various precautions needed to be taken to check the disease and asked to consult doctors instead of going for self treatment, sources added.
