Congress legislator Deepa Dasmunsi, who had a narrow escape while campaigning in Islampur in North Dinajpur district when she was fired at thrice on Tuesday night, alleged it was a planned attack by the Communist Party of India-Marxist.
Speaking to UNI, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi's wife Deepa Dasmunsi said, "I am shocked at what has happened. But I will continue to campaign for the Congress candidate."
Relating the tale of horror, Deepa Dasmunsi said, "At around 2130 hours when I was crossing Bhairobtola near Bangladesh border, a Bolero stopped before my car and four men came out and started pelting stones at us. Then, they started firing from point blank distance. I heard the glass pane break and immediately ducked behind the seat. By now, another round of firing was over."
"I have received cut injuries. They fled when they saw another car coming," she said.
"This is a planned attack by the CPI-M who knew when and from which road I was coming to the town," she said.
A bypoll was necessitated as the CPI-M MLA from the area had died recently. Dasmunsi had gone there to campaign for the Congress candidate.
