A day after the LTTE threatened to resume violent struggle for a separate Tamil state, India said on Tuesday it wanted quick progress in the Sri Lankan peace process.
India's desire was conveyed by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee when he met visiting President Mahinda Rajapakse and discussed the status of the peace process in the island nation.
Mukherjee conveyed the 'hope that there would be early progress in the peace process so that all ethnic communities in Sri Lanka can live harmoniously and are able to achieve their aspirations', External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said.
LTTE supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran threatened on Monday to resume violent struggle for a separate Tamil state, charging that Rajapakse was pursuing a military solution to the ethnic conflict.
Mukherjee also met Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera during which the two sides reviewed the status of cooperation between them, particularly in the economic and commercial fields.
