Six persons, including two children, were killed and eight others injured when they were run over by a car on Carter road in suburban Bandra in the wee hours of Sunday.
The incident happened at around 3:45 am, police said adding, that the victims, construction workers from Tamil Nadu, were sleeping on the pavement when the car mowed them down.
Police arrested all the six persons in the car, including Aliston Pareira (21) who allegedly was in the driver's seat.
While Pareira was booked under Section 304 of Indian Penal Code, i.e, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, others were booked under Bombay Prohibition Act as all of them were 'drunk', police claimed.
Later in the day, Bandra metropolitan magistrate's court remanded Aliston to police custody till November 14, while the other five were released on bail of Rs 5,000 each.
The accused, all in the age group of 18-20, were returning from a private party, police said.
A five-year-old girl and a eight-year-old boy, three women and a man were among the dead.
Fourteen others were injured, out of which six men and two women were admitted to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra while remaining six were discharged after check-up.
The five others who were in the car were: Craig Pareira, Kenroy Jacob, Curt D`Lima, Marvin Pinto and Ronela Santamay.
The names of those dead are as follows: Chinnama Loda (30), Mani Mamma Tinnma (25), Savita Timanna (5), Laxmimanna Raju Malla (25), Ajamma Basappa (35), Devu Basappa (8).
The mishap is a deja-vu of sorts, as in the same area in 2002, actor Salman Khan's Land Cruiser had allegedly mowed down three persons sleeping on pavement, killing one. Khan is out bail and his trial is currently going on.
