The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has issued a strong warning against unsealing of properties, which have been sealed during the controversial drive against illegal commercial establishments operating in residential areas of the capital.

The unsealing of any premises, which was sealed by the civic body during the court-ordered drive, will amount to perjury and contempt of court, an MCD spokesperson said.

Those who forcefully unseal the property would automatically invite penal actions under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code, he said.

Besides legal action, the MCD will re-seal the premises whose seal is broken, the spokesman stressed.

The occupants of a property sealed in Kilokari in South Delhi had allegedly broken the seal shortly after an MCD team sealed the premises on Wednesday, claiming that the premises was being used for residential purposes only.

The MCD has also appealed to the public to cooperate with its sealing teams in carrying out the action in compliance with the Supreme Court order. The civic body has so far sealed 237 premises in the capital during the first two days after the drive was resumed on Wednesday.
