Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Congress president Sonia Gandhi from the Lok Sabha in the wake of President A P J Abdul Kalam returning the Office of Profit Bill to Parliament.
Asserting that the President's decision vindicated his party's stand, Rajnath told reporters in Delhi that the Election Commission should dispose of at the earliest all the cases related to the office of profit pending before it.
"Parliament should take a decision on it keeping in mind the spirit of what the President has said on the issue," he added.
Maintaining that the situation that prompted Sonia to resign from her Rae Bareli seat was relevant even today, Rajnath demanded her resignation from the Lok Sabha.
"The people of Rae Bareli had not asked her to resign, but she did so as a show of idealism and morality and won. But the circumstances or the reasons have not changed," he said.
