Doctors in arms

However, when asked if they had taken permission to protest at Raj Bhavan, which is a high-security zone, they said the idea to go there was a spontaneous one.

"We were at Azad Maidan until 5 pm, waiting for some sort of reaction from the government, but we got nothing. And then we decided to walk to Raj Bhavan and see if the Governor would be willing to speak to us," said one doctor, who did not want to be named.

But there are some who say they do not even know where Raj Bhavan is and were not headed there. "We were just marching towards Walkeshwar, we did not intend to go near Raj Bhavan but the police dragged us there," Pandey said.

Another doctor, who was arrested on Saturday, said, "The manner in which we were treated was terrible. How can we be chased down crowded streets instead of being given a chance to disperse quietly? In fact, we did not even know where the police came from or when. They just attacked us from behind."
