The body of Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Pramod Mahajan, who succumbed to bullet injuries at Hinduja Hospital, was taken on Wednesday to GT hospital in south Mumbai for a post-mortem, hospital sources said.

According to the police, the three bullets embedded in the body will be removed and sent to the forensic laboratory for analysis.

Police have already sent Mahajan's blood-soaked clothes for chemical analysis, while the bullets will be sent to forensic laboratory to check if they were fired from the gun seized from the accused, his younger brother Pravin Mahajan, sources said.

Mahajan's brother-in-law and Maharashtra BJP leader Gopinath Munde accompanied the body to GT hospital. The post-mortem will be conducted by a team of doctors from the hospital, the sources said.

After the post mortem, the body will be taken to the party's state headquarters at Nariman Point in south Mumbai where it will kept until late Wednesday night to enable BJP workers to pay their last respects to the departed leader.
