Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are to campaign in Assam for the first and second phase of Assembly elections on April 3 and 10 respectively.
Sonia Gandhi will arrive in the state for a whirlwind day-long campaign trip on Thursday, addressing meetings in upper and lower Assam, besides the Barak Valley, APCC media incharge I P Hazarika told reporters.
Gandhi is scheduled to address a meeting at noon in Silchar of Barak Valley followed by meetings in upper Assam's Nazira and Jorhat. She would then campaign at Chaygaon before departing for Delhi in the evening, Hazarika said.
Dr Singh is scheduled to make a two-day campaign visit from April 1 for the second phase of polling, addressing meetings at Nalbari and Sualkuchi of lower Assam, besides addressing a press conference on the day of his arrival. The next day he would campaign at Dongkamokam in Karbi Anglong district and Tezpur in the north bank before flying out to Delhi from there, Hazarika said.
