An Afghan, who was tried for converting from Islam to Christianity and could have faced death sentence but for the intervention by Western nations, has sought asylum in another country, the United Nations has reported.
Abdul Rahman has asked for asylum outside Afghanistan, a spokesman for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has said.
"We expect that this will be provided by one of the countries interested in a peaceful solution to this case," he added.
Rahman had been arrested around a fortnight ago under Islamic Sharia law, which states he should be sentenced to death unless he reverts to Islam.
