Twenty-five Congress legislators from Madhya Pradesh and Lok Sabha member Jyotiraditya Scindia Saturday met party president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and submitted their resignations to express "solidarity" with her move to step down as member of Parliament and chairperson of the National Advisory Council on the office of profit issue, party sources said in Bhopal.
The 25 MLAs, including Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Jamuna Devi and state Congress president Subhash Yadav, reached Delhi to meet Sonia and put in their papers to her, state Congress spokesman Manak Agarwal told PTI.
The Congress has 38 MLAs in the 230 member assembly.
The leader of opposition had Friday raised the issue of office of profit in the state assembly and demanded the resignation of 11 state ministers, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The party had also held statewide demonstrations seeking the resignation of Chouhan, the state ministers and some Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs besides submitting a memorandum to Governor Balram Jakhar.
