Congress general secretaries, All India Congress Committee office-bearers and hundreds of workers turned up at 10 Janpath residence of party president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi Friday to express solidarity with her.

A day after she resigned from Lok Sabha and as chairperson of the National Advisory Council, party general secretaries Janardhan Dwivedi, Margaret Alva and Mukul Wasnik, Union Ministers P K Bansal, Subodhkanth Sahai and Vilas Muttemwar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and all office-bearers met Sonia.

Hundreds of party workers, led by Congress member of Parliament Sajjan Kumar and Delhi legislator Mukesh Sharma, shouted pro-Sonia and anti-Bharatiya Janata Party slogans urging the party chief to take back her resignation.

Waving party flags and carrying posters and banners with the message: "Gandhi is an epitome of sacrifice", Congress supporters, including women, shouted, "Soniaji sangarsh karo hum tumhare saath hai (Sonia fight it out, we are with you)."
