The condition of senior Communist Party of India [ Images ] (Marxist) leader Anil Biswas [ Images ] remained critical On Sunday after he was operated upon following a cerebral attack on Saturday evening.
Biswas, a politburo member of the left party, was under constant observation, doctors attending on him said on Sunday. Biswas, the secretary of CPI(M) West Bengal [ Images ] unit, was rushed to a private nursing home around 9 pm on Saturday night after he suffered brain haemorrhage at home.
The CPI(M) convened an urgent meeting on Sunday morning, cancelling all its poll-related programmes to take stock of the situation, party sources said.
Nursing home authorities in a statement said that a medical board has been constituted for the treatment of Anil Biswas who is now in the ICCU. Dr R N Roy heads the seven-member board.
The statement, issued by nursing home's Chief Executive Officer Sumedha Sen, said Biswas had been admitted with a massive brain haemorrhage and subsequently underwent an emergency brain operation to remove the clot. He has been kept on a 'life care support system' from the time of admission.
The board members reviewed his condition during the day and recommended a CT scan, which was subsequently done. His condition remained critical but stable, the statement said.
According to informed sources, CPI(M) politburo members Sitaram Yechuri and Brinda Karat [ Images ] would be arriving later in the day to visit the ailing leader. Chief Minister Buddahadev Bhattacharjee, who was scheduled to start campaigning for next month's assembly election at a public meeting on Sunday, has also cancelled the programme and rushed to the party office.
