Former US Ambassador to India Frank G Wisner Friday said the Indo-US nuclear deal, facing a politically fierce debate in US Congress, has good prospects of becoming a legislation.

"The prospects are good. We are in midst of a very political and quite contentious debate and it may take six-eight weeks before we see a clear picture on legislation," Wisner said during his remarks on Indo-US relations at a press briefing on the eve of 16th Asian Corporate Conference organised by Asia Society.

Wisner, who is presently the vice chairman of External Affairs at American International Group, said that the big national debate will develop a deeper perception of India in America.

"In a fresh perspective, it is coming together of two great nations," he said.

On the difficulties facing the nations, he maintained that large powers have their point of friction and commonality.

"Challenge is not what to do of the difficulties, but to think what could be done in the world to make it a better place," he maintained.
