Both Houses of Parliament plunged into turmoil on Thursday as agitated Samajwadi Party and Left members protested vociferously against United States President George W Bush's visit to India.

Ensuing ruckus resulted in the Lok Sabha being adjourned till 2pm while the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon.

Left members soon joined the agitating SP members. They raised slogans like – "Go back Bush. Go back Bush."

The Left and the SP are supporting the United Progressive Alliance government from outside. The main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies watched the slogan shouting as treasury benches looked a bit embarrassed.

Earlier in the day, Left parliamentarians staged a sit-in at Parliament.

Shouting anti-Bush and anti-America slogans, parliamentarians from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, the Revolutionary Socialist Party and Forward Bloc sat on the steps of the main gate of Parliament, shortly ahead of the sitting of the two houses.

Terming Bush as the biggest enemy of humanity and the biggest killer of the 21st century, Hannan Mollah of the CPI(M) said that Bush should have no place in India.

"He should not be allowed to come to the country and spread his tentacles on our soil," he told reporters in New Delhi.

"After Afghanistan and Iraq, he is now creating a plot to attack Iran," Mollah said, adding that protests were taking place across the country against the US President's visit.

Left parliamentarians had decided to stage the sit-in, saying his visit to the country was 'affront' to the Indian Parliament, which had unanimously adopted a resolution against the American invasion of Iraq. They had also decided to move resolutions in both Houses of Parliament to suspend the Question Hour and discuss the issue as to why the government invited the American President when Parliament had protested the Iraqi invasion.
