The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday expressed serious concern over the mushrooming of madrassas along the Uttar Pradesh-Nepal border.

Talking to UNI in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, party unit president Keshri Nath Tripathi claimed majority of these institutions were engaged in anti-India activities. "It is most unfortunate that neither the state nor the central government is aware about their activities," Tripathi said, lamenting that there was no authority to enquire on their curriculum or activities.

"The nexus between Nepali Maoists and Indian Naxalites has further worsened the situation," he added.

He also claimed that fake currency, weapons and opium were being freely smuggled into India with the involvement of persons belonging to a particular community. "Due to its appeasement policy, the government is not taking any action against these elements,'' the BJP leader claimed.

"The Muslim community in western UP -- after forming an organisation -- was engaged in the division of the state and formation of Taj Pradesh comprising 22 districts," he alleged, suggesting that some districts adjoining Delhi be declared as National Capital Region (NCR) and steps be taken for their development.
