Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday allocated portfolios to eight new ministers, giving PWD and Energy to his brother H D Revanna and key Home Department to state unit Janata Dal-Secular president M P Prakash.
Prakash, a seasoned parliamentarian, also gets Law and Parliamentary Affairs, held earlier by Basavaraj Horatti, primary and secondary education minister.
The chief minister had expanded his four-month old JD-S-Bharatiya Janata Party ministry on Wednesday, inducting eight ministers -- four from each coalition partner.
According to a government gazzette, the portfolios of the other six ministers are: H K Kumaraswamy (Women and Child Development), S A Ravindranath (Rural Water Supply with additional charge of Sugar), Zameer Ahmed Khan (Wakf and Haj), Revu Naik Belamagi (Animal Husbandry), Shivananda Nayak (Small Scale Industries) and Shashikant Akkappa Naik (Horticulture).
In a minor reallocation, Katta Subramanya Naidu, who earlier held the Small Scale Industries portfolio, has now been given the Major and Medium Industries department.
Minister for Science and Technology Minister Ramachandra Gowda has been given the additional charge of Sericulture.
In an unusual excercise carried out while the legislature session was on, the chief minister had made a surprise move and expanded his ministry within two days after the crisis between JD-S and BJP over the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project appeared to have blown over.
JD-S has given a quiet burial to the proposal to take over the BMIC project following opposition by the BJP.
