The death toll in rain-related incidents in Marathwada region of Maharashtra has risen to 52, with 18 more people killed by lightning, officials said in Aurangabad on Thursday.
According to the officials, Latur was the worst affected district in the region as lightning claimed 13 lives there.
It was followed by Beed with 11 deaths, while nine persons were killed in Aurangabad, seven in Jalna, six in Osmanabad and three in Parbhani and Nanded each, they said.
The state government has announced Rs 1 lakh as compensation to the next of kin of the dead.
In the region, Osmanabad recorded the highest rainfall of 75 mm, followed by Aurangabad at 64 mm, Beed at 48.6 mm, Latur at 52.3 mm, Parbhani at 39.2mm, and Jalna at 28 mm.
