Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will depute a representative to hold discussions with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on the Sri Lankan issue.
Recent peace talks between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam broke down, leading to increase in violence in the island.
In a telephone conversation with Karunanidhi on Tuesday morning, Dr Singh said he had read the contents of the resolution passed at the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led Democratic Progressive Alliance meeting on the Sri Lankan crisis and promised to take steps to restore peace in the island nation.
