The Bharatiya Janata Party 'completely supports' the Mahajan family in its time of tragedy, said former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This is the second time that he has spoken in solidarity with Rahul Mahajan, the son of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan.
Vajpayee, however, ruled out any immediate accommodation of Rahul into the party because of the criminal case pending against him. Rahul was arrested ten days ago on drug charges and subsequently released on bail on Wednesday.
"We completely support the Mahajan family but whether or not to take Rahul into the party will be decided when the case is settled," Vajpayee said. "It's a matter of satisfaction that he has been released on bail."
He, however, dismissed allegations by Pravin Mahajan, who is accused of killing his brother Pramod, that Vajpayee ignored illegal activities in the Mahajan official residence. "The remarks are unworthy of attention. Do not pay heed to them," he said.
Vajpayee referred to Poonam Mahajan's remarks that the BJP has been there for the family after her father's murder.
