Pakistan's Punjab government has agreed in principle to build an international level maternity hospital at Gujranwala, the birthplace of Hari Singh Nalwa, the great Sikh general of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in his memory.

Punjab Cabinet Minister Partap Singh Bajwa told a gathering at Rajyan village in the district that he had recently visited Punjab in Pakistan and delivered Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh's message suggesting development of the native village of Nalwa.

He said Pakistan's Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Allahi agreed with Capt Amarinder Singh. Taking into consideration the need of the area, he decided to raise an international level maternity home at Gujranwala with equal share of both Punjab governments.

As proposed by Allahi, soon after raising the memorial, the maintenance of the maternity home would be given to the International Sikh Organisation, the minister added.

Bajwa also announced that 14 villages, selected by the state government, belonging to great personalities, warriors, poets and patriots would get Rs 1 crore each in the next 10 days.
