A general strike called by separatist groups to protest the visit of President A P J Abdul Kalam disrupted normal life in Srinagar and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir for the second day.
All schools, business establishments and offices remained closed in view of the strike sponsored by hard-line Hurriyat Conference and supported by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Dukhtaran-e-Millat and other separatist groups, official sources said.
People chose to stay indoors as security forces erected barriers and checkpoints at many places across the city.
President Kalam is scheduled to attend the diamond jubilee celebrations of the high court no Saturday.
