Former chief of the Intelligence Bureau and former Delhi police commissioner Arun Bhagat has hailed the arrest of Abdul Karim alias 'Tunda' by the Kenyan police as a major success against terrorism. Tunda, a hardcore Pakistan trained terrorist, is wanted by the Delhi and Punjab police in a large number of cases.

"If the news is true then it is a major achievement and the Central Bureau of Investigation must send a team to seek his extradition to India," Bhagat told rediff.com on Friday. Tunda's interrogation is likely to reveal his nexus with Punjab terrorists.

"He is a resident of Pilkhua on the outskirts of Delhi in Ghaziabad and his wife comes from Gujarat. He lost two of his fingers while trying to make a bomb and hence he got the name of Tunda," a senior officer of the Delhi police said.

Tunda carried out many joint operations with Punjab militants and was responsible for train bomb blasts in Jalandhar during the early nineties. Raids at the residence of his brother had led to recovery of large quantity of arms and ammunition. Thereafter he fled to Bangladesh and carried out his activities from there.

Delhi Police Commissioner Dr K K Paul said that he could not confirm the arrest.
