The Amarnath Yatra was suspended for the second day on Thursday because of heavy rains and snowfall along the route of the pilgrimage.
"The Yatra has been suspended as there has been snowfall at several places, including at Magahanus top, besides heavy rains that have made the route towards the cave slippery," Shri Amarnath Shrine Board spokesperson Madan Mantoo told PTI.
Only 210 pilgrims were flown to Amarnath in helicopters on Wednesday and there was no movement from Baltal and Pahalgam routes towards Amarnath due to bad weather, he said, adding that unless the weather clears up and the path becomes clear, no pilgrim will be allowed to proceed further towards the cave.
So far 2.13 lakh pilgrims have visited the holy cave shrine of Lord Shiva at Amarnath. The annual pilgrimage had earlier remained suspended from June 11 to June 13 and June 17 due to heavy snowfall and bad weather. The pilgrims, who left from Jammu, have been stranded at Udhampur and Chenani due to closure of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
