Leaders of the left parties Prakash Karat and D Raja met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to discuss the Iran issue.

"Dr Singh told us about the new resolution that may be moved in the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna on Feburary 2. Russia and China have decided to back the new resolution and the government will first study the new resolution. Likewise we would also like to study the resolution and then formulate our policy," CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat told newsmen after the meeting.

Briefing newsmen on behalf of the Prime Minister's Office, Dr Sanjaya Baru refused to react to questions on what India's stand may be.

On the issue of privatisation of the airports, he said, "Yes, it did come up during the talks and Dr Singh appealed to all parties to support modernisation of the airports and not oppose the government polices in this regard".

He clarified that the statements of US Ambassador David Mulford did not figure in the discussions. The Left had been demanding that the government of India ask the US administration to recall its ambassador in view of his criticism of some of the Indian government's policies.

Dr Singh would hold a press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday and most of the issues will figure during the question answer session with journalists.
