A man has been arrested in New Delhi and his father summoned by the Gujarat police on the charge of sending a "threat", and "abusive" e-mail to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, police said in Ahmedabad Friday.
Omar Siddiqui, who allegedly sent the e-mail, was arrested with the help of Delhi police Thursday and is being brought to Ahmedabad along with his father Imran for interrogation, D G Vanjhara, deputy inspector general of Anti-Terrorist Squad, Gujarat Police, told mediapersons in Ahmedabad.
The ATS and Delhi police team raided the residence of the Siddiquis in Malviyanagar locality in south Delhi and also seized a laptop and hard disc, that was allegedly used to send the threat e-mail to Modi, from the premises, he said.
"There is ample evidence to prove that Omar was the sender of the e-mail. The reasons behind the actions are being investigated. His father's role is also being probed and that is why he is being brought along," the ATS official said.
The official, however, refused to divulge the exact contents of the "threat" and "abusive" e-mail sent to Modi, but said that it was sent on December 24 and it was in connecton with the celebrations of the recently concluded 'Vibrant Gujarat' International Kite festival between January 12-13.
Regarding the background of the two, Vanjhara said they were well educated and Omar was a graduate of Delhi School of Economics and worked as the human resources head of an outsourcing firm.
His father Irfan was a retired government official.
