Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will not contest the assembly polls to become a legislator, instead he will enter the  state assembly as a Member of Legislative Council. It is obligatory for Nitish, who is not a member of the House, to be a member of either the State Assembly or the Legislative Council within a period of six months after becoming chief minister on November 24, 2005.

Nitish, who has completed two months in office on Tuesday, is a member of Parliament from Nalanda parliamentary seat in Bihar.

It was expected that he will contest assembly polls from any of the eight assembly constituencies in his home district of Nalanda. But Janata Dal-United parliamentary party leader Sharad Yadav disclosed that Nitish will enter the Legislative Council.

"Nitish is the CM of the entire state and he should not get tagged to any particular constituency. Contesting election is a tough task and Nitish should not take time off his hectic work of running the government," said Yadav.
