Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday said the country has to accept what the Supreme Court has said on the imposition of the President's Rule in Bihar but declined to comment on the continuance of Governor Buta Singh indicted by the court.
"Whatever the Supreme Court says the country has to accept it," Singh told reporters at his Race Course Road residence on the sidelines of a function where he gave away the National Awards for Bravery to children.
"The Supreme Court has the authority. We have to respect it," he said. Asked whether Buta Singh will go, the prime minister said "I do not want to comment."
Singh said he has not yet studied the full judgement.
Reacting to Buta Singh's refusal to quit as Bihar Governor, former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee, who represented the MLAs of the dissolved assembly, said that the Centre "owes it to the court and Constitution to remove him."
"I think Buta Singh cannot and should not remain in the office for a minute after the categorical findings of the Supreme Court," Sorabjee said. "And if he does not resign, and wants to hoist the flag in Patna on Republic Day then I think that Centre owes it to the court and Constitution to remove him."

Asked about his resignation after the Supreme Court indicted him for recommending dissolution of the Bihar assembly, Buta Singh had said that he was not stepping down and would take salute on January 26 in Patna.
