Congress willing to join hands with Trinamool Congress

January 22, 2006 20:57 IST
The Congress on Sunday made it clear that it is willing to have an alliance with Trinamool Congress [ Images ] if it severs ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party [ Images ].

"We have no problem in entering into (seat) adjustments with Trinamool Congress, provided she (Ms Mamata Banerjee [ Images ]) parts company with the Bharatiya Janata Party and National Democratic Alliance," Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee [ Images ] said at a news conference.

Answering questions, he rejected the contention that alliances led to contradictions. Citing an instance, he said the Congress was defeated by Left Democratic Front candidates in Kerala [ Images ] in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections and the same members have extended support to the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.
