Mumbai police's encounter specialist Daya Nayak was booked on Friday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on the charge of amassing assets disproportianate to his known sources of income, ACB sources said.
The offence was registered at the end of an ACB inquiry against Nayak spanning over nearly two years, the sources said, adding that as part of the procedure, a search was carried out at Nayak's residence in suburban Kandivili on Friday.
ACB sources said Nayak, a sub-inspector attached to Kandivili police station, was likely to be arrested on Saturday, but refused to elaborate further.
Nayak shot into fame for killing more than 50 persons of underworld gang in separate encounters during his posting in Mumbai Crime Branch.
He was shunted out of Crime Branch last year following the allegation of disproporationate wealth.
