Joining issues with Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Brinda Karat on the Baba Ramdev controversy, Bharatiya Janata Party Wednesday charged her with making a "motivated attempt to hurt the faith of Indians in Yoga and Ayurveda".

"It is unfortunate that a senior leader like Karat has charged Baba Ramdev on the basis of a letter from the health ministry. But the said communication does not confirm prima facie evidence of animal parts in the medicines produced by the Swami's Divya Yog Pharmacy, as claimed by her," party spokesman Prakash Javadekar told reporters in New Delhi.

The BJP leader also circulated copies of Karat's statement and the health ministry letter in support of his argument.

"The anomaly suggests some motivation. It could be a motivated attempt to hurt the faith of Indians in Yoga and Ayurveda," he said.

However, Javadekar made it clear that he was not defending Ramdev against the charges, but was "only reacting to Karat and the anomaly".
