Chhattisgarh govt tables economic survey

The Chhattisgarh government on Sunday tabled in the state assembly for the first time the economic survey of the state.

"A day before the presentation of the state budget, we are tabling the economic survey of the state for 2005-2006 like the Union Government," Finance Minister Amar Agrawal told the state assembly.

The report, mentioned that from January to July 2005 a total of 1.01 lakh people were registered in various employment offices of the state. With that the total number of registered unemployed youth has gone upto 9.52 lakh till July 2005.

The report also said in the first year of Raman Singh government in 2004-2005 the food grain production registered a negative growth of 21.67 per cent from 2003-2004.

On agriculture production also the growth was 7.83 per cent less than 2003-2004, and the gross state domestic production of 2004-2005 was less 12.84 per cent.

However, the net state domestic product for the year 2003-2004 was estimated as Rs 32620 crore compared to Rs 33614 crore in 2004-2005 or a growth of 3.05 per cent.

Due to irregular rainfall in 2004-2005 year, 5462.08 thousand tonnes foodgrain was produced in kharif and 973.64 thousand tonnes in rabi, which was 16.88 per cent and 13.49 per cent decrease from 2003-2004 respectively.
