A poultry farm owner was arrested Thursday night for allegedly dumping nearly 700 dead chickens in Limbodi pond near Indore, police said Friday.

The dead birds were transported in an Indore Municipal Corporation truck and were dumped in Limbodi pond, following which IMC has suspended the concerned area's sub-enginner and the truck driver.

The IMC has collected the samples from the birds and sent them for testing to a Bhopal-based laboratory.

The post-mortem report of these birds reveal that they were suffering from Merex disease in which first they get paralysed and later die, Commissioner, Health Services, Dr Rajesh Rajori said.

According to IMC's health incharge, Rajendra Rathore, the owner, identified as Gammulal Verma was arrested in this connection.

Verma told police that he has brought these birds from Gujarat nearly a month back and they all died after getting sick.

Later, IMC destroyed the dead birds in an incinerator.
