The Vishwa Hindu Parishad, on Monday, accused the United Progressive Alliance government of 'communalising' the armed forces by reportedly ordering a survey of Muslims among its ranks.
"The government, which claims to be secular, has ordered a survey on communal lines. Such steps taken to appease minorities will communalise the armed forces, create divisions and eventually put the country's security in danger," Acharya Giriraj Kishore, VHP senior vice president told a press conference.
Cautioning against any move to implement reservations in the armed forces after such surveys, Kishore said this would result in compromising eligibility.
Expressing concern over 'attacks' against Buddhists in the recent communal flare-up in Jammu and Kashmir, the VHP leader said Ladakh should be made an autonomous region or merged with neighbouring Himachal Pradesh to ensure the security of Buddhists.
"These organised attacks against Buddhists are aimed at driving them away from their homeland, just as the Hindus were driven away from the Valley," Kishore alleged, adding that the saffron outfit would soon launch a 'nation-wide agitation' against it.
Criticising the Centre for its decision to amend the Foreigners' Act, the VHP leader said this would encourage illegal migration from Bangladesh and create 'demographic imabalance' in the country.
