Charging the ruling United Progressive Alliance with keeping the opposition in the dark about key foreign policy issues, the Bharatiya Janata Party Saturday demanded immediate explanation from the Congress-led government over India's vote supporting Iran's referral to the United Nations Security Council.

"The government should hold a meeting of all parties immediately before the Parliament session, to explain the background of India's vote at the International Atomic Energy Agency meeting Saturday," BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar told PTI.

His comments came after the UN nuclear watchdog agency, supported by India and 26 other countries, reported Iran to the Security Council over its nuclear programme.

"What we strongly believe is that the UPA government is required to take foreign policy decisions in a non-partisan manner and after taking the opposition into confidence, which it is not doing. We, for instance, had demanded the government hold an all-party meeting over the Iran issue before the IAEA vote, which it did not," Javadekar said.
