Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday addressed a national level press conference, his second in 20 months, and spoke on issues as diverse as national security to India's foreign policy.
Stating that the government will continue to fight all anti-national and disruptive forces, Dr Singh vowed to fight terrorism. He also addressed Naxal violence, asserting that the various state police units will combat Naxal violence, the prime minister said the government will address the root causes of the alienation.
Dr Singh addressed recent contentious issues like Bihar, Natwar Singh's resignation and Bofors. He said the decision to unlock the London bank accounts of Italian businessman and Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi was not taken at the behest of the government.
Further, he asserted that the decision to dissolve the Bihar Assembly was the right thing to do, on the basis of material available to the Centre at that time and pointed out that even the Supreme Court did not have one opinion on the issue.
Contrary to his image as a very serious person, the prime minister had the entire national media in splits not once but on several occasions during the press conference.
