For the first time, taps in Mumbai will go dry for 24 hours from 10 am on Wednesday as water supply in the city will be suspended for laying out pipelines.

"Water supply would be stopped from 10 am on Wednesday to 10 am on Thursday because we are in the process of installing some piplines in the city," a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said.

"We are working in two phases, the first of which will take place on Wednesday, while the second phase will be taken up in January," he said.

Though Mumbaikars will go without water for 24 hours, the laying down of these pipelines will end the water woes of the city, the official said. Thirty-two mega horsepower pumps at Pise Panjrapur, which help the city to get its water, will be closed during the repair work, the official said.

This is for the first time Mumbai will be getting a 100 per cent cut. In the past, there have only be partial cuts, which also had caused inconvenience for the citizens.
