Expressing solidarity with Sri Lankan Tamils, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Thursday night said he would do everything possible to end their suffering.

"Helping Sri Lankan Tamils is in our blood. I am not a person who expects anything in return for the things I am doing. I will continue to do my duty of helping you," he told a group Sri Lankan Tamil students at the DMK headquarters in Chennai.

The students met the chief minister to thank him for allowing them to write the 'O' level examination of Sri Lankan Education Board, which is equivalent to the plus two examinations in Tamil Nadu.

He said the Sri Lankan Tamils had come over here not as refugees but as guests of the people of Tamil Nadu.

Karunanidhi said he was expecting a day to send back all the Sri Lankan Tamils to their motherland, where they can live in peace.

The happenings in Sri Lanka for the past many years had an impact on the people of Tamil Nadu, he added.

On Wednesday, five Tamil MPs from Sri Lanka met him to apprise him of the current situation there, he said, adding that they had come here not to ask for arms and ammunitions but only to seek a way to come out of their sufferings.

The MPs might get an opportunity to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday, he said.
