A Muslim woman in Rajasthan's Sikar district has alleged that her father-in-law raped her and killed her newborn baby.

A case has been registered in response to the 22-year-old woman's complaint that she was raped by her father-in-law Nizamu Khan at her home in Kirdoli village on Sunday, District's Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar Vashistha said on phone on Tuesday.

The woman had moved to her husband's house in Kirdoli after her wedding five years ago. Her husband left for Dubai 16 months ago to work there. She alleged that Khan molested her and killed her newborn baby. He also threatened her to keep mum or face dire consequences. Khan has denied the allegations.

No arrests have been made so far. However, police have registered a case against him for rape and murder under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and called him for interrogation, Vashistha said.

"We are waiting for the report of the autopsy of the new-born baby to ascertain the cause of the death. Thereafter, we will decide on the arrest of the accused," Vasistha said.
