Ruling out a CBI inquiry into the death of Abhishek Mishra, a BIT-MESRA student, in a waterfall near Ranchi Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda said state investigating agencies were capable of probing it.
There were efficient state agencies like Vigilance and Criminal Investigations Department, to probe the death, he said when asked whether the government would ask CBI to inquire the case as demanded by the deceased father Subhash Chandra Mishra.
The chief minister also said that the issue should not be politicised.
"We are all hurt by his death. He was a bright and brilliant student. But we should refrain from politicising the matter," Koda told media persons.
Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader, had on Sunday demanded a CBI probe hours after Abhishek's father, Subhas Chandra Mishra, sought a similar inquiry into his son's death saying it appear to be an unnatural death.
According to the post-mortem report, the student died from drowning.
Abhishek, whose body was fished out and cremated in Ranchi on Sunday, had been to the Dassam waterfalls, about 40 km from the state capital with his friends.
According to the Superintendent of Police (Rural), Upendra Kumar, Ragini, the daughter of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, also accompanied the group to the picnic spot.
